Description

Lantanas are evergreen and come in a low ground cover variety as well as in bush varieties. Groundcovers (eg montevidensis) come in white, lavender or yellow. Bush varieties are available in red, white, orange and pink/cream.

They are drought tolerant and salt resistant, therefore are an easy care plant to have in your garden requiring little attention.

Can be used as groundcovers, trailing plants, hedges or bushes, depending on the variety.

Grows from 1 - 2 metres tall with a spread up to 2 - 3 m.

Growing

All lantana varieties like a sunny aspect. They can stand rigorous conditions in poor soil, but they are at their best in light fertile soils with good drainage. Soil conditioner and summer water will improve the quantity and quality of flowers and prolong the flowering season. Lantanas are suitable for coastal areas but give them some protection from salt-laden winds.

Cuttings taken in autumn and spring will provide you with mature plants in no time.
Responds well to heavy pruning in late winter and/or after their main flush of flowers. Spot flowering occurs through most of the year in warmer climates. Hybrids have been developed nowadays which give splashes of color over many months of the year.

Suited to all frost-free climates.
