Description

Colourful bedding and border plant for late winter and spring flowering.

Nemesia comes in tall and compact varieties. Tall varieties grow to about 40 cm, but the trend is toward development of smaller (20-30cm) bushier compact varieties.

The blooms resemble small, open snapdragons and are available in all shades from cream, yellow, orange, pink and red.

Growing

Nemesias need a sunny and well drained aspect. They will grow in light or heavy soils, but prefer friable, fertile soil to which fertiliser and organic matter has been added. Hence beds should be prepared well beforehand.

Cultivation is best by seed and the plants will flower in 14-16 weeks from sowing. Once established they need little attention.

Fertilise with liquid fertiliser every 2-3 weeks, especially towards flowering time.

Most climates except the tropics.
